RS Components (RS) and Allied Electronics (Allied), trademarks of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world's largest distributor of electronics and maintenance products and services, has launched a new iPhone app for its eTech magazine, and has introduced a number of features to enhance the company's free, interactive publication, in existing iPad, Android, and print versions. The first version of eTech for iPhone is available in English and has been designed to allow users of these devices quick and easy access to information and updates on the latest range of electronics products, technologies and online resources from design offered by RS. eTech's release for the new version iPad 3 offers crystal clear viewing enabled by the high-resolution retina display (2048 x 1536), which boasts the groundbreaking number of 3,1 million pixels. eTech for iPad is published in three languages – English, Chinese and Japanese – increasing accessibility to the full range of RS services for suppliers and customers in these significant, fast-growing local markets.

Launched in English in May 2012, the eTech Android app now includes Chinese and Japanese versions, significantly increasing the number of tablet users able to view the interactive publication in their local language.

In addition, RS is exploiting the capabilities of the Aurasma augmented reality platform by enabling eTech print readers to automatically view relevant digital content on their smart device. Aurasma uses the device's video camera and adds virtual information to the existing physical information. The platform is primarily designed to work on the Internet, enabled for mobile devices such as the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad 2, 3, and high-end Android devices. “eTech magazine is growing in importance and popularity as a channel through which our suppliers and customers can stay abreast of the latest electronics products and services offered by RS,” said Glenn Jarrett, Global Head of Product Marketing at RS. . "Providing this information in a variety of languages and easily downloadable formats expands accessibility around the world and raises awareness of the evolving supply of free design tools available to engineers from RS."
