New episode of Vicor's Powering Innovation podcast explains the challenges of electrified aviation and paves the way for future commercial flights

Vicor today announced the third episode of its podcast series on the world's most innovative technologies, Powering Innovation. This episode examines the growth, challenges, and benefits of electric and hybrid aircraft.

In this third installment of Powering Innovation, Vicor's Robert Gendron talks with Ed Lovelace, Ampaire's CTO, about electrified aviation: from short-haul cargo planes to supersonic transport. Ampaire is a global leader in aircraft electrification and has won awards for aviation innovation and environmental sustainability. In this episode, Robert and Ed look at the power needs of an all-electric aircraft and try to imagine what the transition of commercial aviation to cleaner, more electric power will look like.

“This episode highlights the opportunities in electric aviation, which are often overshadowed by current advances in electric vehicles,” Gendron notes. “Ed offers a lot of detail and credibility, building on Ampaire's success, about what is really involved in designing a new hybrid aircraft. There are many factors to consider from a power electronics point of view. We are very proud that Vicor's modules, with their higher density and lower weight, are suitable for this type of innovative application."

Podcast Powering Innovation de Vicor is out now and new episodes are added every month. In it, listeners will be able to discover new ideas about electrification, power challenges, creative power architectures and topologies, as well as innovative solutions based on power modules.
