The new ACS37610 is the first in the industry to measure from 100 A to >4000 A without a core and U-shaped magnetized shield, incorporating advanced fault detection functions to reduce the system's Bill of Materials (BOM)

Allegro MicroSystems today announced a new corrients Hall-effect coreless for demanding automotive and industrial systems, offering increased accuracy and sensitivity, additional fault detection capabilities, and user programmability. Allegro's new ACS37610 sensor joins the ACS37612 as the industry's first family of coreless Hall sensing solutions, designed to measure currents from one hundred A to over 4000 A flowing through a busbar or PCB trace with typical accuracy of 1 percent, without the need for an external hub or U-shaped magnetic shield. These innovative solutions allow system designers to achieve greater efficiency and power density while reducing system difficulty, bill of materials, cost, space and weight.

“As the innovative leader in current sensing solutions for over twenty years, Allegro was the first to market coreless differential Hall effect current sensing technology, and our new ACS37610 IC enables our service customers to accurately measure hundreds or thousands of amps very cheaply and easily,” says Shaun Milano, Allegro's Director of Current Sensors. "Our Hall-based differential sensors give excellent immunity to stray magnetic fields without the need for shielding, required by competitive solutions, which slows down response and adds non-linearity error to the system."

New advanced features for rather difficult current sensing applications

The ACS37610 is an optimal choice for electric vehicle high-voltage traction motor inverters, 48V/12V auxiliary inverters, heterogeneous redundant battery monitoring, overcurrent detection, smart fuses, PDUs and power supplies. nutrition. The sensor's 250 kHz bandwidth, dedicated over-current and over-temperature fault pin, and a host of built-in diagnostics make it ideal for safety-critical applications.

The device features advanced differential detection technology, resulting in a 2,5 times improvement in signal to noise ratio (SNR) and two times less noise compared to the ACS37612. The lower noise gives the superior resolution for precise torque control, while the sensor's 4× greater sensitivity range allows for flexible busbar and PCB designs.

Although not required, a slight notch in the busbar or copper trace on the PCB allows the SNR of the system to further improve. The ACS37610 features increased Hall element spacing (5mm vs. 1,8mm on the ACS37612) to accommodate larger slots, resulting in virtually zero thermal performance humiliation and no hot spots. The sensor can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical orientation with respect to the busbar, providing superior flexibility in mechanical mountings.

Packaging and Design Support

The ACS37610 current sensor is now available in a low profile, lead (Pb) free, eight pin TSSOP package for surface mounting. The sensor's ultra-compact package makes it ideal for space-constrained applications, while allowing for simple and cost-effective surface mounting. To assist developers in speeding up their designs, Allegro offers evaluation kits and reference tools for current flowing through a PCB or busbar.
